Oral Health Evaluation
Your first visit will include a comprehensive oral health evaluation. We begin with discussing your dental history and learn about your past experiences with dentistry. We gain valuable insight as you share with us your present overall health, problems or issues you might be experiencing and your goals for dental health. Following the discussion, we will assess how your chewing muscles, jaw joints (TMJs) and bite (occlusion) work together and any issues that might be present. We will evaluate the health of your gums and surrounding soft tissue, looking for signs of disease, oral cancer or injury. Of course, a complete assessment of the health of each tooth, as well as the condition of any restorations (fillings, crowns, bondings, dentures, etc) is an integral part of the evaluation.
If you have expressed concern about the way your teeth look, you will have the opportunity to "tour" your mouth via intraoral camera with Dr. Marion, discussing each point of concern. Throughout your exam, we will be asking what you are feeling, wondering, thinking. You know better than anyone what you feel in your own mouth. Along with the process of sharing time in examining your mouth, we will suggest appropriate x-rays. These may include specific teeth or your entire jaw system, both of which we can do in our office.
Typically, diagnostic impressions of your upper and lower teeth will be made during this initial visit. These impressions are made using an elastic material. The impressions are then used to make a model of your mouth using plaster, to simulate the movements of your lower jaw relative to your upper teeth. These models are invaluable in helping us assess function and identify treatment solutions.
With your initial visit complete, Dr. Marion will study all your information and develop a plan that addresses your concerns and any health problems uncovered by your comprehensive evaluation. Dr. Marion may invest substantial time in this phase, identifying the best course of treatment based on his advanced technical knowledge and understanding of your specific situation.
You will be invited to schedule a subsequent appointment to discuss your treatment options to best meet your goals.
